Robert Eugene Oberg, better known as Bob, was born November 18, 1935, at Mrs. Paul's Maternity House to Pete and Hilma (Nelson) Oberg, the youngest of 8 children. Bob grew up on the farm his father purchased 100 years ago in 1919. He went to Rose Hill Country School, 1/2 mile north of his home, for the first 8 years, then attended Wakefield High School and graduated with the class of 1953. He was baptized and confirmed, as all the other Oberg children were, at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Upon his high school graduation, Bob began raising livestock and farming with his brother, Harold. Bob married Gloria Blohm of Allen on June 9, 1957, and after Hilma and Pete moved into Wakefield, Bob and Gloria moved onto the Oberg homestead, where they remained until the fall of 2018. Bob and Harold farmed together until 1958, and Pete stayed involved with the farm until 1982, when Bob and Gloria purchased the farm. Bob loved farming and livestock. Bob and Gloria did a lot of traveling in the western states, and their Alaska trip was a highlight. At 65, Bob retired from farming and held various part-time jobs, which he really enjoyed. At 77, he left his part-time jobs and stayed busy gardening, cutting firewood, cracking black walnuts, and enjoying fellowship with his friends at coffee. He loved going to all of his grandchildren’s events. Bob and Gloria moved into Wakefield in September of 2018, and at the 2019 Dixon County Fair, they received the 100-year award of the farm being in the Oberg family. Bob was delighted to be recognized for a century of Oberg heritage on the farm. Bob and Gloria enjoyed 68 years of marriage dedicated to their faith, family, and farming.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Hilma Oberg, his brothers Alvin, Paul, and Harold Oberg, sisters and brothers-in-law Helen and Marvin Muller, Edna and Berneal Gustafson, Verna and Lorence Fischer, Esther Oberg, as well as son-in-law Tom Nissen and grandson Chris Oberg.
