Marcile S. (Samson) Thomas, 90, of Wayne, NE passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, NE. The visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Wayne, NE. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Wayne, NE. The burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE.
Marcile was born on September 7, 1934, in Rosalie, NE to Kenneth and Phyllis (Blair) Samson, near Rosalie in her grandparents’ home. She attended and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1952 and continued her education at Wayne State College earning her bachelor's degree in 1955. On June 16, 1957, Marcile married Jimmie Layne Thomas at the Methodist Church in Rosalie, NE.
Marcile started her career in education as a teacher at Stanton High School before moving on to Wayne High and then Wayne State Teachers College. She started her employment at Wayne Hospital in June of 1965. In 1977, she was promoted to serve as Providence Medical Center Administrator. Marcile has done numerous things for Providence Medical Center over the years, such as the addition of a doctor's clinic to the hospital, the therapy wing, education wing, wellness center and a 10,000 square foot outpatient addition. Marcile was in the healthcare field for over 46 years and in the early years, she acted in the capacity of administrator, plant supervisor, medical records officer, and accountant. Her wisdom and guidance was the driving force in propelling Providence Medical Center to a position of prominence in the State of Nebraska. Marcile was selected as the 2003 Business Woman of the Year. She was a WSC Foundation Trustee and Providence Medical Center Foundation member for over 20 years. For many years Marcile served on the Haven House Board of Directors, was on the Civil Service Commission and a member of the First United Methodist Church and PEO.
Marcile truly enjoyed being involved in community development and attending community fundraisers and activities. Marcile loved her family and attended as many of their activities as possible. She rarely missed attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events, often attending multiple games in the same day. When she couldn’t attend she was on the phone asking how they did!
Marcile is survived by her children, Terri (Jake) Munter of Wayne, NE, Tim Thomas of Wayne, NE, Tammie (Craig) Thomsen of Wayne, NE; grandchildren, Lucas (Bailey) Munter, Amanda (Jared) Heithold, Adam (Ashley) Munter, Jessica (Drew) Wagner, Zach Thomsen, Emilee Thomas; 17 great grandchildren; sister, Jane (Ron) Olds of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law, Layton Smith of Pender, NE; step-sisters, Carla (John) Watson of Lincoln, NE, and Judy Peters of South Sioux City, NE.
Marcile is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Samson, Phyllis Samson-Beck, Harvey Beck; husband, Jimmie Thomas; sisters, Gloria Samson, Fawn Smith; step-sister, Carolyn Bornhoft; granddaughter, Elizabeth Golenor; sister-in-law, June Shaw; brother-in-law, Don Shaw; and brother-in-law, Cliff Peters.
