LaVonne Lorraine Hicks

LaVonne Lorraine Hicks, 74, of Pender, NE, died on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at a Sioux City hospital.  A memorial service for LaVonne will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Pender.  The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  A luncheon will follow at the church.  Burial will be at a later date. 

LaVonne was born on September 29, 1948, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Evelyn (Ahrens) Appleton.  At an early age, she was adopted by Harold Gevaert.  Following her graduation from Central High School in Sioux City, IA, LaVonne worked at F&M Banking in Dakota City, NE.  Over the years she worked at various places including Dollar General in West Point, NE.  In 1989, she moved to Pender with her family.  She enjoyed Country Dancing, going to Casinos, and spending time with family and friends. 

She is survived by her son, Brent (Angela) Hicks of Melissa, TX; daughters, Angela (Charles) Toelle of Beemer, NE, Cathy Thomas of Rifle, CO; seven grandchildren, Darrin Hicks, T.J. Hicks, Shane Carrender, Jessica Blunck, Nathan Carrender, Brianna Castro, Tyler Lichtenberg; five great-grandchildren, Owen Wortman, Arizona Blunck, Charlie Castro, Addalyn Castro, Mia Gallegos; sister, Connie (Rex) Johnson of Aledo, IL; and a brother, Patrick (Lisa) Gevaert of Wilton, IA.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sandy Cooper; and a special friend, Bill Warnock.
