Dwaine Leroy Erickson, 88, of Wakefield, NE, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, NE. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield.
Dwaine was born on May 20, 1937, in Wakefield, NE, to Joseph and Edith A.V. (Sundell) Erickson. He attended and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1955. Dwaine started farming immediately following high school. He joined the United States Army in 1960, serving in California. He was discharged in 1962. On June 28, 1964, Dwaine married Janelle Olson in Cresco, IA. To this union, the couple had three children: James, Bethany, and Laura.
Dwaine was a lifelong farmer in the Wakefield area. He also worked as a salesman for Buffalo Equipment, selling planters and cultivators. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and traveling with Janelle in his spare time. After retiring from farming, Dwaine worked for Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home, driving the hearse and helping with funerals and visitations. He enjoyed going to coffee each morning with the guys and discussing daily events. Dwaine will always be remembered for his friendly smile and welcoming conversations.
Dwaine is survived by his wife, Janelle Erickson of Wakefield, NE; son, James Erickson of Wakefield, NE; daughters, Bethany (Mark) Hammer of San Ramon, CA, Laura (Paul) Croom of Fulshear, TX; sister, Lois Borg of Concord, NE; grandchildren, Zach Hammer, Alex Hammer, Kendall Croom, and Keaton Croom.
Dwaine is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Marvin Borg.
