Douglas Martin Phipps, Sr., 63, of Wakefield, NE, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, NE. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield, NE; Pastor Jill Craig will be officiating. The memorial visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Evangelical Covenant Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield.
Douglas was born on October 22, 1961, in Wakefield, NE, the son of Donald and Mardell (Thomsen) Phipps. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1980 and continued his education in college. He was severely injured as a passenger in an automobile accident that affected him for the remainder of his life. He worked for a time at M.G. Waldbaum’s in Wakefield and later at the Wakefield Bowling Alley when his father needed his help. He had a love for many things: the Nebraska Cornhuskers, collecting sports memorabilia (especially Michael Jordan), and fishing. Most of all, he loved his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Douglas Phipps, Jr., and his friend Brittney Tucker; daughter, Crystall (Joseph) Spell; fiancé, Kelly Persong; grandchildren, Joseph, Louella, and Kyson Phipps; brother, Dale (Annette) Phipps, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Debra Phipps, and a brother, David Phipps.
