Local graveside services are currently pending with Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, Nebraska.
Don was born on June 30, 1947, in McCook, Nebraska, to the late David Rex Garrison and Dorothy Mae (Quinn) Garrison.
Mr. Garrison was a charter member of Angel of Joy Lutheran Church in Lufkin and served on the church board. He proudly served as a Captain in the United States Air Force for 4 years and served 2 years in the reserves. Don was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and loved Nebraska football. He worked for State Farm and retired after over 30 years.
Don was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a beloved grandfather. For his children and grandchildren, there was never a game he would not come to, a swimming practice he did not make time to attend, or a piece of homework he was not willing to help with. His children benefited from his knowledge of all things mechanical and home-related. Beyond his family, he was passionate about classic cars and antique tractors, which only slightly surpassed his love for the farmland he grew up on.
Don is survived by his wife, Yvonne Garrison of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Carene and Jon Hammond of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Katie Garrison of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jared and Marissa Garrison of Zurich, Switzerland; grandchildren, Ethan Hammond, Miley Hammond, Millie Hammond, Dawson Rex Garrison, Quinn Garrison, May Garrison, Hensley Garrison, Austin Garrison, and Owen Garrison; identical twin brother, Bill Garrison; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Garrison.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gene Garrison; sister, Mary Ann Garrison; nephews, Mark E. Garrison and Sam Dillon; and cousin, Gary Garrison.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Ethan, Miley, Millie, Dawson Rex, Quinn, May Garrison, Hensley, Austin, and Owen.
