Dennis R. Rodby, 79, of Wakefield, NE, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, NE. The visitation will be on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. The funeral will be on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield.
Dennis was born on August 25, 1946, in Independence, IA, the son of David and Leola (Hicks) Rodby. He graduated from Jesup High School in Jesup, IA, in 1964. He was united in marriage to Carmella Kehe in Waterloo, IA, on July 18, 1969. They moved to Wakefield, NE, in 1969, to that union, two sons were born, Todd and Troy. He attended Wayne State College, studying Culinary Arts. Dennis later worked at M.G. Waldbaum’s in Wakefield for 15 years. He later was a contract monument setter with Nebraska Memorials, where he worked for many years until his retirement. Dennis loved to fish, camp, boat, and ride motorcycles. He was a member of the Night Out Riders and Abate 15 of Nebraska. For over 55 years, Dennis was a member of the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Carmella; sons, Todd (Kari) Rodby of Washta, IA and Troy Rodby (longtime girlfriend, Kristina Babcock) of Coupland, TX; two grandsons, Jesse and Garrett Rodby; sister, Karen Atkins of Marion, IA; sister-in-law, Linda Rodby of North English, IA; sister-in-law, Barb (Rex) Blaylock of Readlyn, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gary Rodby; and a sister and her husband, Donna (Keith) Rasmussen.
