Dennis L. Piper, 81, of Wayne, NE, lived from March 20, 1944 until July 11, 2025. He passed away at the Wisner Care Center in Wisner, NE. The visitation will be on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE with a prayer service and Masonic service starting at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Walthill, NE followed by Military Honors. The burial will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home.
Dennis was born on March 20, 1944, in Homer, NE to Lawrence and Evelyn (Sailors) Piper. He was raised in the Walthill area, graduating from Walthill High School in 1962. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army in 1965. During his time in the Army, Dennis was deployed in Korea. He was discharged in 1967. On January 15, 1972, he was united in marriage to Roberta Robertson at Elk Point, SD. To this marriage a son, Jeff was born. For many years he worked at Iowa Beef in Dakota City, before working for many years at the Soil Conservation/NRD Service in Walthill, NE. He was a member of the Masons Local 275, and the Walthill American Legion Post 0089. Dennis enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting marbles, and watching westerns.
Dennis is survived by, wife, Robbie Piper of Wayne, NE; son, Jeff (Jessie) Piper of Wayne, NE; grandsons, Jace Piper, Johen Piper; brother, Gordon (Virginia) Piper of Dakota City, NE; sisters, Sally (Ted) Drum of Sioux City, IA, Linda (Ron) Fabry of Omaha, NE, Rhonda (Gary) Hirchert of South Sioux City, NE; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Robertson of Pender, NE; brothers-in-law, Gene Phillips of Elkhorn, NE, Rick Robertson (Julie Gathje) of Pender, NE, sisters-in-law, Sue Robertson of Pender, NE, Mary Robertson of Lincoln, NE; Margaret (Moeller) Piper of Dakota City, NE.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Evelyn Piper; brothers, Curtis (Nancy) Piper, Duane Piper; sister, Elsa (Phillips) Piper; father-in-law, Robert Robertson; brother-in-law, Jerry (Pat) Robertson; nephews, Matt Fabry, Brad Piper, and David Piper.
