Dave, son of Elmer and Anne (Biede) Lange, was born and raised at his family farm east of Emerson, NE. Following his Graduation from Emerson High School in 1952, he was united in marriage to Wilberta Voss at St. Luke Lutheran Church on November 4, 1953, on Dave’s 19th Birthday. To this union, two children were born: Steve and Julie. Dave and Wilberta started their family on the farm east of Emerson. They moved into town to operate the Pool Hall and build and operate the Little Dipper Ice Cream Shop. After several years in town, they returned to the Lange Family Farm. Dave farmed for many years before working at Boyer Valley, later renamed ConAgra Fertilizer, in South Sioux City, NE. He also owned East Emerson Guns, where he held trap shooting events and sold firearms. Dave retired in 2011 and enjoyed their acreage until moving into Sioux City, IA, in 2015.
Dave’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and golfing. He enjoyed music and playing the guitar and harmonica. He took great pride in attending his children’s events, and later his grandchildren’s many activities. He was a great conversationalist and had a contagious laugh.
Dave is survived by his son, Steve (Erin) Lange of Sioux City, IA; daughter, Julie (Mike) Sexton of Sioux City, IA; Luis Enrique Echeverry of Armenia, Columbia; grandchildren, Stephanie (Tanner) Mackey, Hayley (Sam) Huska, Whitney (Will) Karrer, Jonathan Sexton, Jennifer (Dave) Schott, and Jessica (Vern) Maxwell; and ten great-grandchildren.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wilberta, in 2021, and his sisters, Dorothy Lange and Judith Vraspir.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Holy Spirit Retirement Home for the exceptional care they provided Dave. A smile, a touch, a hug, a joke. Home.
