Sepa was born on August 31st, 1961, in St. Louis, MO, to Happy Mitchell Carmona and Gilberto Carmona. She was raised with a strong belief in education and a deep respect for her Umoⁿhoⁿ culture, attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for her bachelors and later the University of Nebraska Medical Center for medical school. Shortly after, she married her love, Bob Ashley of Pierre, SD and became a practicing pediatrician in Millard in 1990.

Despite her educational accomplishments, she always said that her greatest love was motherhood. After the death of her husband in 1997, she shifted her whole being into raising her two beloved children, attending every concert, room party, and school event she could. The love shared between herself and her children was strong and unwavering.

Sepa is deeply cherished by all who knew her. She is known for her warm laughter and bright smile, and was the embodiment of the strength in her Indian name. She enjoyed beadwork and crochet and was a talented cook, impressing her relatives with her fried rice and Filipino pancit. She loved the natural world and would sit on her porch on quiet mornings, sipping tea and watching the sun rise.

She is survived by her son, Aaron Ashley of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Amelia Ashley of Minneapolis, MN; her siblings Connie, Juan, Mitch, and Liz.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; mother, Happy Mitchell; and father, Gilberto Carmona.
