Bruce D. Smith

Bruce D. Smith, 67, of Bancroft, NE, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at a hospital in Ocala, FL. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft. Following the funeral service, a luncheon will be held at the Bancroft Community Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft.

Bruce was born on November 16, 1957, in Sioux City, IA, the son of Dennis and Peggy (Neil) Smith. Following his graduation from Rosalie High School, he was united in marriage. To this union, a son, Drew, was born. Bruce and his wife later divorced. Bruce worked for many years at various jobs, including Omahaline in Walthill, NE, Brehmer Manufacturing in Lyons, NE, and Smith’s Standard Station in Rosalie, NE. One of his favorite positions was with the Walthill School and the Bancroft School, where he drove the school bus. During this time, he loved working around the children and the teachers. Before his retirement, Bruce finished his career with the Pender Hospital and Prairie Breeze Assisted Living, where he worked in maintenance.

Bruce enjoyed gardening, canning tomatoes, and grilling with his friends and family. He loved the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Dallas Cowboys. Most of all, he loved spending time with his son and grandchildren, where he traveled to the school events and spent time in the summer at water parks.

He is survived by his son, Drew (Nicole) Smith, and their children Ashlyn, Ava, Aiden, and Avery; mother, Peggy Smith; sisters, Theresa (David) French, Sheila Blatchford, and Shawna Farewell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Dennis; grandparents; brother-in-law, Darin Farewell; uncles and aunts; and a nephew, Colby Gatzemeyer.
