Betty L. Nelson, 92, of Sioux City, IA, formerly of Bancroft, NE, died on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at UnityPoint St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City. The visitation for Betty will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. Betty Lou was born in Hammon, Oklahoma on May 10, 1930, the daughter of Earl and Luella (Kays) McFarlin. At an early age, her family moved to Pender, Nebraska, where she graduated from Pender High School in 1947. On August 24, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Harold R. Nelson. Together they raised eight children on a farm near Bancroft. For several years, she taught Sunday School, was a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary, where she served a term as president, and served with the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Altar Guild for many years. She is survived by her children, Judy Veazey of Oklahoma City, OK, Cindy (Kevin) Wilkins of Ogallala, NE, Penny (Dale) Bengston of Hordville, NE, Lori (Pedro) Garcia of Crosby, TX, Peggy (Tim) Girard of Sioux City, IA, J.J. Nelson of Indianapolis, IN; sixteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Butch McFarlin of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Mylet Rush of Virginia, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, sons, Larry Nelson, and Gale Nelson; grandchildren, Patrick, and Stacie Nelson.
