Alvin D. Sorensen, 95, of Bancroft, NE, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at St. Joseph Rehabilitation in West Point, NE. The visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE. The burial with military honors will be in the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft, NE. Memorials are suggest to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft.

Alvin was born on January 12, 1930, in Bancroft to Jeff and Anna (Elsasser) Sorensen. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He attended District 78 country school. Alvin entered the United States Army on February 27, 1951. During his time with the Army, Alvin served in Germany. He was honorably discharged on February 17, 1954. After returning home, Alvin was united in marriage to Laura Siebrandt at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Pender, NE. To this union, three sons were born: Duane, Dudley, and Brian. Alvin and Laura farmed and raised livestock near Bancroft on the farm they purchased in 1963, until his retirement.

Alvin was a member of American Legion Post 191 in Bancroft for over 60 years, the West Point, Nebraska Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the 40 & 8 club. Laura passed away on April 15, 2019. Alvin continued to live on the farm until moving into St. Joseph Rehabilitation.

He is survived by his sons, Duane (Marilyn) Sorensen of Lincoln, NE, Dudley (Jichelle) Sorensen of Waverly, NE and Brian (Debbie) Sorensen of Bancroft, NE; grandchildren, Jessica Sorensen, Jenna Sorensen, Ethan (Taileigh) Sorensen, Erin (Spencer) Wessels, Kelsey (Jared) Abrahamson, Audrey Sorensen and Cole Sorensen; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laura Sorensen; sisters, Marie Jahnke, Florence Cook, and Kathryn Peterson; brothers, Lyle Sorensen, Jacob Sorensen, and Warren Sorensen.
