Alice Mae Johnson, 95, of Wakefield, NE, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield, NE. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield, with Pastor William Bertrand officiating. The burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh–Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield.
Alice was born in Bancroft, NE, on October 17, 1929, the daughter of Otto and Violet (Burcham) Brummund. She was baptized on December 1, 1929, in Bancroft, NE. She was confirmed on May 28, 1944, at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Winside, NE. Following her graduation from Winside High School in 1947, she attended Wayne State College, earning her teaching certificate. On June 10, 1951, she was united in marriage to Eugene Johnson at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Winside, NE. To this union, three sons were born: Randall, Alan, and Terry. While she was teaching, Alice continued her education, earning a Master’s degree. She taught at the Wakefield Elementary School for many years before her retirement. She was active with St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield, the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, Master Gardeners, the Retired Teachers Association, the Wakefield Library Board, and the Wakefield Tree Board. She was well known in Wakefield for planting flowers at her school garden, the Wakefield Post Office, and the Eaton Baseball Field. She enjoyed attending many reading and teaching conferences, as well as gardening workshops.
Alice is survived by her son, Randy (Sheryl) Johnson of Brighton, CO, and their children, Brian (Courtney) Johnson of Fort Lupton, CO, Brent (Brandy) Johnson, and their daughter Taytum of Lincoln, NE; son AJ (Diane) Johnson of Wakefield, NE, and their daughter Amber (Brian) Gamble, and their children, Jordyn and Easton of Wayne, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene, in 2002; her son, Terry Johnson, in 1966; her sister, Caroline Peterson; and a brother, Elmer Brummund.
